As the hot weather continues, women with long hair often style their hair in a high ponytail or a rolled-up bun, commonly known as the "messy bun." However, some women find such styling difficult—namely, women with an M-shaped forehead due to hair loss.
In fact, hair loss, once known to be exclusive to middle-aged and older men, has recently been increasingly reported by women as well, due to various causes such as pregnancy and childbirth, hair dyeing, and stress.
Hair loss can be a significant source of stress, especially for women, who tend to be sensitive about their appearance. An angular M-shaped forehead can not only give a masculine impression but, in severe cases, may also make one look older.
As a result, many people manage the condition using related products, from hair loss prevention shampoos to nutritional supplements. Recently, more people are considering medical procedures such as hair transplants for a more fundamental improvement.
A hair transplant is performed by transplanting healthy hair from the occipital area to the area affected by hair loss. It can be considered when the forehead is excessively wide or the hairline is uneven; through this, it can smooth the forehead line as well as complement the contours of the face.
However, treatment must be carried out according to the precise cause and symptoms of hair loss. An excessive hair transplant may instead result in an unnatural appearance, and there are quite a few cases where this leads to revision surgery.
Yoo Hwa-jung, Director of Modi Hair Plant Clinic, explained, "Recently, more women are considering hair transplants to improve an M-shaped forehead," and added, "Above all, for a hair transplant, a satisfactory correction effect can be obtained only when the procedure is carried out after designing a hairline that harmonizes with one's head shape and facial features, considering the overall facial proportions through sufficient consultation with the medical staff."
